On July 2, 2008 the Lobbying Act, and the related Designated Public Office Holder Regulations and Lobbyists Registration Regulations came into force.
The Lobbying Act is part of the Federal Accountability Act (FedAA), which received Royal Assent on December 12, 2006. One part of the FedAA relating to lobbying came into force upon Royal Assent. That part, sections, 88.1, 88.11 and 88.2, contains provisions relating to members of transition teams.
Previous Acts and RegulationsAs required under the previous Lobbyists Registration Act, a Parliamentary review of this legislation was carried out within five years of its coming into force. The House of Commons Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology presented its recommendations relating to the latest review in the spring of 2001. As a result, the federal government tabled Bill C-15, An Act to amend the Lobbyists Registration Act. Bill C-15 received Royal Assent on June 11, 2003 and came into force on June 20, 2005.
