Information about the registration system

This message was prepared for Registrants by the Registration Unit of the Office of the Commissioner of Lobbying

* New requirements relating to the disclosure of details associated with the Subject Matter of lobbying activities *

The new Lobbying Act and its associated regulations contain some new registration requirements with respect to the information contained in the registrations. We would like to draw your attention to one of those.

Section Details Regarding the Identified Subject Matter of the Undertaking or of the Lobbying Activities must now provide the name AND a description of the identified subject matter. (Instead of the name OR description)

Here are a few examples of the level of precision required:

  1. Title and description of legislative bill or resolution — Example: Bill C-30, Clean Air Act in respect of quotas for greenhouse gases.
  2. Title and description of regulation — Example: Amendments to the Small Vessel Regulations in respect of pleasure crafts.
  3. Title and description of policy or program — Example: Indian Affairs Post-Secondary Educational Program for the Inuit population of Nunavut.
  4. Title and description of grant, contribution or other financial benefit — Example: Obtain contributions from the Correctional Service of Canada for the construction of a new Community Residential Centre for federal offenders.

5) Title and description of government contract — Example: Contract with National Defence concerning battleship upgrades.
